Three ways you can help us with fuel deliveries this winter

The good news, if you’re not a fan of cold weather, is that we have passed the halfway point of winter 2018/19. The not so good news is that, as we seem to learn every year, winter here in Connecticut ain’t over until it’s over.

Whatever the weather has in store for us in the latter half of this winter, one thing is certain – our expert fleet drivers and technicians will be out there, working hard to provide the propane and heating oil deliveries that will keep your family safe and warm.

But just because our crews are great at their job doesn’t mean they can’t use some help from time to time; in fact, you could be a key to making sure that both you and your neighbors get your fuel on time in challenging weather.

Here are three ways you can help us in the event that snow or icy conditions prevail leading up to your fuel delivery:

• Maintain clear access to your fill pipe or tank – If it snows, please try to keep a clear, ice-free path to your heating oil fill pipe or propane tank so our technicians can access it quickly and safely. If you have an outdoor propane tank, it’s a good idea to mark its fill valve area with a flag if blizzard conditions are forecast.
• Clear your driveway – Navigating large trucks on slippery driveways isn’t easy, and safety codes prohibit us from parking a fuel truck on an incline unless wheel chocks (the wedges we put under the tires so the truck doesn’t roll back) can be applied safely. Neither of us wants our crew to arrive and not be able to deliver your fuel, so please take care of snow and ice on your driveway before they arrive.
• Order early – When fuel is in high demand, it is much harder for us to quickly respond to urgent delivery requests, so please call when your heating oil or propane tank is no less than a quarter full.
