Summer: A great time for propane equipment maintenance

Summer 2019 is upon us (finally!) – which means that soon you’ll be relying on your air conditioning system to keep your Connecticut home comfortable (if you need to schedule your annual professional air conditioning maintenance, do it soon: with a hot, sticky summer predicted, you’re going to need it).

But summer isn’t just a good time to maintain your home cooling system – it’s also a great time to take care of your hard-working propane heating systems and appliances.

The question is, which heating equipment should be serviced and when?

Here is some quick guidance to help you schedule your propane maintenance:

• For appliances that are mostly used during one season: For equipment that is used almost exclusively during a focused period – a propane fireplace or a propane furnace, for example – be sure to complete annual service before that period begins; you don’t want is to discover a heating system problem in the dead of winter. This is why summer is the perfect time to schedule heating equipment maintenance.
• For appliances in year-round use: Although propane equipment that isn’t used year-round (such as your propane pool heater or propane fireplace or propane logset) can be serviced any time of the year, it’s best to try to set aside one month to schedule all your maintenance appointments; this keeps disruption in your house – and paid visits by your service crew – to a minimum.

  The one exception to the one inspection per year rule is a propane generator, which should be checked once before summer hurricane season and once before winter storm season.

Summer is a great time to schedule just about any type of propane equipment maintenance – you’ll beat the pre-fall rush and find an appointment time that fits your busy schedule.
